While hip hop has yielded some of ▐ ▌ the best club music, it is time for the music to expand and move ▐ ▌ forward. Before moving into the future, hip hop must look to its ▐ ▌ past and reacquaint itself with the roots of the music and what it ▐ ▌ means to be an mc. 2006 is the year of the lyricist. The people of ▐ ▌ hip hop demand a new leader to shine his light and clear away the ▐ ▌ fog of materialism. How can hip hop undergo these changes? How will ▐ ▌ this person be able to lead hip hop in the right direction without ▐ ▌ his music being labeled 'preachy' or 'backpacky?' the key to this ▐ ▌ delicate balance between making a change and making people feel ▐ ▌ uncomfortable is compromise. In the year of the lyricist, G-Eyez is ▐ ▌ up to the challenge. ▐ ▌ ▐ ▌ Anthony 'Tex' brewer was born in the spring of 1982 in Cambridge ▐ ▌ Massachusetts as the son of a smooth sharply dressed hustler and a ▐ ▌ high school women's basketball star. Knowing this, it is no surprise ▐ ▌ that G-Eyez took to playing basketball at a young age. As he got ▐ ▌ older, G-Eyez started to lose interest in sports and began to fall ▐ ▌ in love with what would become his profession of choice, hip hop. ▐ ▌ Shortly after elementary school, G-Eyez and his family relocated to ▐ ▌ Houston Texas. It was here that G-Eyez was able to balance his quick ▐ ▌ paced east coast upbringing with a laid-back southern swagger. ▐ ▌ ▐ ▌ In 2002 Nas scored a hit with song titled 'One Mic.' to this day, ▐ ▌ Nas' heartfelt testament to MCing stands as one of the only hip hop ▐ ▌ records to achieve 'hit song' status without focusing on the club. ▐ ▌ It is no coincidence that this same artist, nearly ten years earlier ▐ ▌ would influence one of the future heavyweight rappers to begin his ▐ ▌ career. In 1994 G-Eyez purchased Nas' legendary debut album, ▐ ▌ Illmatic. It was these songs that made G-Eyez decide to explore his ▐ ▌ own talents. ▐ ▌ ▐ ▌ G-Eyez began his career rapping on street corners, in friend's ▐ ▌ basements and of course, 'out in the park.' upon graduation high ▐ ▌ school, G-Eyez returned to Cambridge where after a short stint in ▐ ▌ college, he reunited with childhood friend and local rapper Chief C. ▐ ▌ It was through C that G-Eyez met J. Cardim and in turn the Young ▐ ▌ Don. ▐ ▌ ▐ ▌ In the following months, G-Eyez will be releasing his debut, "it's ▐ ▌ only the beginning," an album filled to the brim with the kind of ▐ ▌ balance that will lead hip hop into the future. In a 2004 interview, ▐ ▌ G-Eyez was asked whether he felt pressure being the first artist to ▐ ▌ come out on R.A.P. Records. To this query he responded, 'it's not so ▐ ▌ much pressure, its responsibility.' in 2006, put your trust in ▐ ▌ G-Eyez. ▐
