| Atlanta's party rap duo Ying Yang Twins scored a hit with the single |
| "Whistle While You Twurk," which received nationwide airplay on urban |
| and crossover radio stations. Their full-length debut album, Thug |
| Walkin', appeared later in 2000. Alley...Return of the Ying Yang Twins |
| from 2002 sold well down South but it was the duo's 2003 team-up with |
| Lil Jon — "the king of crunk" — that brought them nationwide success. |
| The party anthem "Salt Shaker" was a massive club and radio hit and soon |
| had the TVT label chasing the duo to sign. They did, and their first |
| album for the label, Me & My Brother, yielded two more crunk hits — |
| "What's Happnin!" and "Naggin'." The same year the duo appeared on |
| Britney Spears' album In the Zone and her television special of the same |
| name. In 2004, TVT released the remix-filled My Brother & Me with a |
| bonus DVD of the group's videos. USA (United State of Atlanta) appeared |
| in the summer of 2005 as its single "Wait (The Whisper Song)" was |
| dominating urban radio. |

Release Notes:
Anything put together by Dr. Cornel West is best
listened to with your thinking cap on. The album Never
Forget: A Journey of Revelations (Hidden Beach) is a
trek through a level of consciousness usually reserved
for a higher plateau of understanding. Concepts of
crime, poverty and government corruption come to life
at the tongues of some of music's most prolific
performers.
Talib Kweli further solidifies his place in the hall
of fame of lyrical geniuses on the song "Bushonomics."
Each sentence will evoke wheels to involuntarily turn
in your head as he spits lines like, "Revolution
requires participation but sometimes people be
hesitating." Soft piano keys compliment rather than
down play the message. The uniqueness of this track is
that upon closer listen, you will find that both Talib
and West (who offers his own words on Hip-Hop's true
meaning of freedom rather than money cars and chains)
are in the business of uplifting. Instead of merely
preaching about what is wrong with the state of black
America, intricate word play unveils a deeper meaning
that can most easily be found in the chorus line:"It's
like a jungle sometimes, I'm at the front of the line,
I aint trippin' but I stumble sometime. Then I get
right back up."
Throughout the record many tracks make for an unlikely
teaming between Cornel West and artists from both the
Hip-Hop and the R&B/ Soul world. As each artist speaks
their peace, West speaks his. Of course his words do
not come in the form of a rap but instead are
delivered via powerful spoken word messages.
Of the most exciting features on the album is the song
"Dear Mr. Man" with Prince. Yes, Prince. The song is a
throwback to Prince during his days of publicly
expressing his dislike against his label by writing
the word "Slave" on his cheek. While it has nothing to
do with the record industry (specifically), the
message is rooted in Prince's funky way of using his
electric guitar to get any point across. "Dear Mr.
Man, we don't understand why folks keep struggling,
but you don’t lend a helping hand." The smoother than
smooth horns and snare beat will give you goose bumps
yet hold you just long enough to get a message to your
ears.es
The use of the N-Word is brought to the forefront by
the track of the same name. Due to the controversy
surrounding this subject it's fitting that the topic
is discussed between West, Michael Eric Dyson, and
Tavis Smiley. Though they differ in opinion on
aspects of the word's use, this is far from verbal
sparring. While Dyson acknowledges West's thoughts
towards the degradation of the n-word no matter who
uses it, he also speaks to how many believe that the
difference in spelling changes the words meaning.
Other tracks feature a fluid flow by Rhymfest on
"Welcome to Chi" as well as Jill Scott's "What Time it
Is," which of course has nothing to do with a clock.
Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations is among Dr.
Cornel West's most powerful work because it reaches a
demographic that may not be familiar with his books or
other professional work. Instead of placing a barrier
against the Hip-Hop community, he has joined it.
Proving not only that he is a genius, but that the
same community that gets so much flack for a lack of
substance in their music, is not turning a blind eye
to the injustices taking place daily in America.

The Ways you Drive to the Rhythm and Rhyme
Valley Below started out as acoustic duo in 2003. Then there were the
two acoustic guitars and two voices on the road barefooted. On the way
the brand new VB-tunes developed and found their form during summer
tours 2004-05.
For over a year now, Valley Below has also been working and rehearsing
as a five piece outfit. The band has played several gigs on different
kind of venues in Finland and at the same time VB has been working on
their debut album. Recording, mixing and mastering took place at
Studio LevelOne in Jyväskylä in 2006. Valley Below debut album,
Running Rites, was released in 11.4.2007.
You run in Cities and their Prairies
Running Rites will present an organic and down to earth band sound.
There are influences from the 60’s pop-harmony to the 90’s powerpop.
The album is a collection of ten individual songs, lyrically connected
to each other. Even if the main characters are lost and lonely,
looking for the answers by wandering in the circle of the cities – in
the end, there is an emotional and hopeful mood throughout the whole
record.
Keep on telling the Tale, your own Grail
Rather than any up-to-date hip trends, Valley Below would like to
represent timeless pop tradition, that is to say, a mixture of catchy
melodies and meaningful pop lyrics. Along with this ambition - and
with Running Rites debut album, Valley Below is as eager as always to
play more gigs and share these tunes with ‘new audiences’ during 2007.

Name dropping name dropping name dropping
a lot has happened to finnish indie quartet - now, occasionally, a
quintet - rubik after playing their first live show in 2003. combining
near-to-hysterical guitar screeching and atmospheric, almost ambient
landscapes with twisted pop melodies you could easily see them
threading the path of modern proggish indie and not-so-indie rock with
the likes of radiohead, elbow, mew and deus.
but as seen on their now sold out debut ep "people go missing"
released in the beginning of 2005 via new music community, their music
really is strong enough to stand on its own too. coming out as dream
-like but with a nightmare twist there's also certain fragility and
accidentiality in it that drones and reshapes; breathes and lets you
breathe; embraces not suffocates. all this was noted as well by the
audience and the cohorts of critics, who were stunned. for many of
them (with the "official" finnish rock critic ilkka mattila in the
front row) the ep was one of the refreshing debut records of the year.
yet so far, with only one and now out-of-print mini-album in their
pocket, rubik has mostly startled people at their gigs that are, so to
speak, outblowing experiences of manic energy yet wrapped in crawling
-under-your-skin-like intimacy. within a year alone they've already
played shows with mogwai, carpark north, disco ensemble and autechre,
toured finland with current local indie faves lapko, signed to
fullsteam records and, above all, finished their debut album coming
out in the beginning of 2007.
